Sure luxury travel has its perks, but sometimes staying in a posh, exclusive resort can isolate you and the kids from the experiences that probably enticed you to the destination in the first place. Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas is looking to remedy that with its Private Jet Experience around the Maldives, Sri Lanka and Thailand, which blends the ease of private jet travel with an entire menu of customizable indigenous experiences.
Thanks to a partnership with MJets, a bespoke aviation airline, guests can do some serious destination hopping around the Indian Ocean, staying at participating Anantara properties and experiencing some of the insider adventures these destinations offer.
The Anantara Private Jet Experience is completely customizable and can be tailored to just a few people to an extended family getaway.
A sample five-night itinerary could include a flight into Colombo International Airport in Sri Lanka, where a private limousine will transfer you to a private villa overlooking the bay at Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle for a two-night stay.
Yes, the property, which offers 152 rooms and pool villas, offers ocean views, a posh menu of Ayurvedic treatments at Anantara Spa and a location in a relatively un-touristed area on Sri Lanka’s southernmost shore. But the resort also boasts access to Galle Fort, a 16th-century village with such historic sites as an 1882 clock tower, a postcard-pretty Dutch Reformed Church and Sri Lanka’s oldest lighthouse overlooking the scenic harbor. The village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also offers charming boutiques and cafés in its cobblestone streets for a dose of local culture.
Or, embark on a wildlife safari to Udawalawe National Park, where you can keep an eye out for elephants and leopards, as well as monkeys, crocodiles, peacocks and storks — all in the company of a park guide. If you still have energy to spare, whale watching and surfing are among the nautical experiences available at the resort.
You can then fly to Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas on a private seaplane for three nights of relaxation steps from a lagoon in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here you can snorkel or dive among coral reefs — you might even see a whale shark or a manta ray — or just chill in a swinging hammock under tropical coconut trees. The property also offers private stargazing sessions in the only observatory in the southern Indian Ocean.
The Cessna Citation X accommodates up to eight passengers with reclining club seats, entertainment systems and the services of a flight attendant.
Larger groups can opt for the Gulfstream V, which offers shower facilities, fully reclining beds, state-of-the-art entertainment systems and the services of two flight attendants. Prices are available upon request.
