Turneffe Island Resort invites guests to give back to the earth during their visit, with countless environmental initiatives available for guests to take part in. The resort embraces conservation efforts of the Turneffe Atoll and its reefs, as well as educational programs to teach guests about the importance of marine life. The resort also staffs former researchers and environmental enthusiasts. These professionals cover an array of topics, including the hunting of lionfish, an invasive species.
Turneffe Island Resort is Green Globe-certified and a member of the Reef Environmental Education Foundation. This foundation seeks to conserve marine life by educating, enlisting and enabling divers to become active ocean stewards. Even the resort’s fishing programs are catch and release to ensure a healthy fish population is maintained and local fishermens’ livelihoods are protected.
The resort also hosts three rangers from Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association. These rangers cover issues like illegal fishing, fishing methods and catch sizes.
