Earlier in 2019, LEGOLAND California Resort, the first park of its kind in North America, celebrated its 20th birthday … and the party will continue throughout the year. The festivities will remind fans of the kid (and grown-up)-friendly interactive theme park that the enduring building blocks of fun will never get old, thanks to the addition of new attractions, upgrades and interactive activities.
In other words, the park is having an epic birthday celebration, where creative and adventurous visitors actually get all the nifty gifts. According to Jake Gonzalez, media relations manager, this holds especially true for kids 12 and under, who will receive free admission to the park on their own birthday this year.
Other new “bricktacular” arrivals Gonzalez highlights include LEGO® City and an all-new LEGO® City 4D- Officer in Pursuit movie at the park’s LEGO Showplace Theater. The new short combines eye-popping 3D computer animation with 4D real-world effects as it “documents” the LEGO crew’s latest efforts to save their city. The movie is exclusive to LEGOLAND Parks and features tons of action and laugh out loud moments that will appeal to everyone.

Preschool visitors, meanwhile, will get to take over the streets of a revitalized DUPLO® Playtown, both on foot and riding a cool LEGOLAND Express train. These new stomping grounds cover prime real estate in the most scenic area of the park, and are adorned with all sorts of things to explore through climbing, sliding and swinging. The just-added LEGO® Friends Live Show and Character Dance Party at the new Miniland Stage, meanwhile, puts all visitors in the center of the action, with sing-a-longs to new songs, impromptu dance lessons and encounters with familiar and new faces in the LEGO universe.
New attractions that arrived on the scene in 2018, such as the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel and LEGO City Deep Sea Adventure submarine ride, are still going strong and drawing creative crowds as is fan favorite LEGOLAND® Water Park, which just added the new ride Riptide Racers. Although the LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part was released in February, LEGO Movie Days promise to keep the movie’s buzz going with a variety of activities for guests. Awesome features include meet-and-greets and photo time with the movie’s energetic cast of characters, a themed scavenger hunt and a LEGO build activity inspired by the “block”-buster films.
From a father’s perspective, Gonzalez observed that older kids and their parents visiting the park never tire of seeing how far and high those building blocks will go. School field trips built around LEGO Mindstorms by Intel robotics program in the Imagination Zone section of the park is testament to this. This attraction, exclusively for young builders 9 and older, is designed to keep them as enthusiastic and fearless as the films’ main hero Emmet.
