Destinations / North America

Wyoming entices family travelers this fall with a season full of special events and spectacular autumnal scenery.

Leaf Peeping

Peak leaf-peeping season in Wyoming typically lasts from September through mid-October. Local wildlife is more active during the fall months, so be sure to consider this timing with your travels. Popular destinations for fall foliage viewing include Sierra Madre Mountain Range, Aspen Alley, Bighorn Mountain Range and Sinks Canyon State Park.

Fall Festivals

Family-friendly fall festivals and events take place throughout the state. Ellis’ Harvest Home in Lingle, Wyoming, features a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, refreshments and a popular corn maze (in the shape of Bigfoot this year). Fall programming is available through Halloween. Laramie Hay Company Fall Festival takes place Oct. 12, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. This free-to-attend event includes hay rides, face painting, games and a free pumpkin for kids to take home. Funds raised benefit the local FFA chapter.

Local Haunts

Experience Wyoming’s spooky side at spine-tingling events in October. On Oct. 4, learn about the haunted history of South Pass City, Wyoming, at the Gold, Guns & Alibi’s event. Help solve the murder of George McOmie, then celebrate with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, hosts Haunted Halls Exclusive Tours & Tales on Oct. 11 and 17. The event delights guests with spooky tales of Western history and ghost stories. Visit Wyoming Frontier Prison in Rawlins, Wyoming. The state’s first penitentiary hosts exclusive Haunted Halloween Tours after hours on Oct. 24, 25 and 31. Tickets will be available to purchase online starting Sept. 29.
