Everyone knows of the white-haired, big-bellied Santa Claus, but at First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Santa looks a little bit different … family travelers can expect a unique and fascinating holiday trip to this museum, where Santa Claus dons long braids and traditional wear.

Oklahoma City is home to 39 tribal nations, and First Americans Museum gives visitors an immersive look into the cultures and histories of each Indigenous community in the state.
This December, Indigenous Santa comes to the museum’s Winter Holiday Art Market, taking place Dec. 5–6. The market features First American artists selling jewelry, pottery, artwork, textiles and other handmade pieces, and kids will want to keep their eyes peeled for Indigenous Santa as he wanders through the museum and market.

Can’t make it to the market? Oklahoma City has some other exciting Indigenous-forward holiday experiences this season. Nov. 13 to Jan. 1, 2027, Red Earth TreeFest shows Christmas trees decorated by Native artists and tribal nations with beadwork, handmade ornaments, pottery and artwork reflecting individual cultures.
For a Western take on the holidays, head to the city’s historic Stockyards City Dec. 5 for the annual Cowboy Christmas Parade, when a herd of longhorn cattle trot down the streets, followed by marching bands, horses and Cowboy Santa.
