Destinations / North America

Los Angeles is one of those destinations that has something for everyone, which means family travelers can always find something fun to do together. This winter, if you find yourself in the Greater Los Angeles area, be sure to check out these fun kid-friendly activities that will make sure everyone has their share of fun.

Los Angeles may be a large metropolitan area, but there are still plenty of ways to explore the great outdoors, like with a visit to White Point Nature Preserve in San Pedro, where the port of Los Angeles is located. It offers a rare glimpse into the natural history of the area, showcasing native plants and animals calling the region home. Visitors to the preserve can hike trails, take a guided nature walk, participate in an Outdoor Volunteer Day, or catch one of the occasional kid’s programs. This Valentine’s Day’s Nature Club on Birds for Kids, which will feature kid-friendly programing like crafts designed for kids aged 5–10, is one of the upcoming programs.

Rainy days, which Los Angeles seems to be having plenty of this winter, are a great time to head to the mall for some shopping. This may not sound like a kid-friendly activity, but at Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, the whole family can enjoy a day indoors. This great mall, the sixth-largest in the country, is home to popular fashion chains as well as plenty of unique spots like the kid favorite, Dig It. This 8,000-square-foot construction-themed play zone is the perfect place to let little ones play to learn. The family can enjoy the center together or parents can drop the kids off for a few hours of supervised fun while they hit the shops.

No trip to the Los Angeles area is complete without a visit to Hollywood Boulevard, where you can spend a whole day seeing sites like TCL Chinese Theater, Madame Tussauds and Hollywood Walk of Fame, but be sure to make some time for a stop at El Capitan Theater for a mix of history and modern movie magic. The theater has been an iconic local landmark since it was first built in the 1920s and continues to keep up its tradition by offering an old Hollywood-style experience while showing modern, family-friendly movies. The theater is currently hosting a daily feature of Turning Red, a family-favorite Disney Pixar film.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.

Some of Europe’s Best Day Cruises

A week cruising along the Danube or the Rhine may be the stuff of dreams for many, but family travelers can enjoy views from the water in ways kinder to the family budget. Many riverside cities offer scenic cruises, and some Baltic or Mediterranean ports have daytrips to nearby islands or coastal attractions. In several cities you can cruise the canals, and in Switzerland you can spend a day cruising on Lake Geneva, with sightseeing stops in lakeside towns.
