Destinations / North America

Nature lovers come out in full force every fall to witness Mother Nature at her best. If you’re looking for the perfect place for family travelers to experience it, you’ll want to consider a trip to North Carolina. Dollar Flight Club, an online, membership-based company that tracks down great deals on flights, recently released its 2025 Fall Travel Report, revealing the top destinations to visit this fall based on a combination of peak fall scenery and affordability.

This year’s top pick was Asheville, where you can experience so much more than the dramatic transition of the landscape as summer evolves to winter, displaying beautiful shades of red, orange and gold. According to Dollar Flight Club, the ideal time for booking in Asheville is between Sept. 17 and Oct. 10 to catch peak fall colors.

The city is home to a hands-on museum that makes learning fun for kids (Asheville Museum of Science), beautiful waterfalls like Looking Glass Falls and plenty of hiking trails for all skill levels. The city is also home to impressive food and entertainment scenes.

The city is located in a stunning location surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and fall beauty is everywhere, so you can enjoy this natural phenomenon without even having to hit the road for a long drive. But should the fam be up for a car ride, there are plenty of scenic routes around the region.

It’s been a year since Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage, and the city has made great progress in its recovery, with places like historic Biltmore Estate welcoming visitors. This beautiful 8,000-acre estate offers gardens amid a sprawling landscape of trees, with plenty of options for accommodations, along with attractions like an exclusive King Tut exhibit and kid-friendly activities like Antler Hill Barn and Farmyard, where little ones can make some new furry friends.
