When it comes to family travel to Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa, in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, leave the kids at home and enjoy the resort’s 14 recently renovated, adults-only guestrooms and suites. Mindful of the region’s natural surroundings, Tabacón worked within its existing footprint to renovate eight Honeymoon Suites and six Rainforest Rooms. Four suites feature private plunge pools fed by the volcanic hot springs on property.

“It is a privilege that my first act as General Manager at Tabacón has been to oversee the reimagining of these iconic suites, and to launch a completely new product and experience for both new and returning guests,” said Andrey Gomez, general manager, Tabacón. “Being able to offer private pools and bathtubs with volcano views that are fed and heated naturally by our own hot springs is a unique experience in La Fortuna. We continue to evolve the luxury experience while staying true to our mission that builds on our heritage – providing for our community and protecting our environment.”
The guestrooms feature locally made furniture from native Pacific cedar wood, and artwork was commissioned from a Costa Rican watercolor artist. The floors boast pieces of natural stone. Floor-to-ceiling windows open on to private terraces or balconies with views of either the rainforest or Arenal Volcano.

A highlight of a visit to Tabacón is the unique thermal river experience, on offer to guests in the renovated rooms and suites. The experience includes 18 pools ranging 75–105 degrees, the largest network of naturally occurring hot springs in Costa Rica. The adults-only Shangri-La Gardens are housed in the hot springs, as is the resort’s spa, with culturally embedded treatments.
For food and beverage at Tabacón, guests enjoy everything from fine dining to light bites, like at Ephemeral Table, a private six-course dinner in a candle-lit, open-air bungalow.

Apr 17, 2025Experience the Night Sky Like Never Before in Oregon’s Outback
I’ve looked up at the night sky almost every night of my life and have always been fascinated by the way the experience changes from day to day and place to place. But on recent family travel to Oregon, I got to experience it like never before in the Oregon Outback. I was staying at the lovely Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte (not far from Bend) and, as the day came to a close, my group boarded a van with Wanderlust Tours and began the journey into a region of the Oregon desert known as the Oregon Outback.
