Destinations / North America

In winter, Westchester County comes alive with seasonal adventures and festive charm, making for a great winter wonderland trip for family travelers. What can families expect in Westchester County this winter?

Lumina Light Experience

Stroll through a dazzling trail illuminated by more than half a million lights at this experience at Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard in North Salem. Sights include a music-synchronized Nutcracker display and Gingerbread City brought to life by The Sugarplops (tiny, mischievous bakers working behind glowing windows). Sip on hot cider, enjoy fresh donuts and indulge in toasty s’mores. Lumina runs Nov. 21–Dec. 30.

Westchester’s Winter Wonderland

Returning to Kenisco Dam Plaza in Valhalla, this event (Nov. 21–23) begins with a walk-through light show and market. Then, the fan-favorite drive-thru experience starts Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 31. On this drive, expect more than a mile of lights, including the 175-foot Transporter Tunnel and Rudolph’s Runway.

Gingerbread Showcase

Taking place at Wainwright House in Rye between Nov. 29 and Dec. 12, this showcase includes spectacular displays, hands-on workshops and themed events for all ages. The celebration also supports Feeding Westchester.

Victorian Christmas Tour

In Irvington, families can travel back to the 1870s at Armour-Stiner Octagon House with a special tour. This unique, eight-sided home is adorned with wreaths, garland and antique ornaments of Christmas trees, offering a glimpse into 19th-century holiday traditions. Tours available Nov. 13–Dec. 22.

Untermyer Gardens Conservancy’s Grand Holiday Illumination

This beloved tradition features more than 150,000 twinkling lights set to festive music from around the world. A holiday favorite each year, the illumination kicks off Dec. 6 with a dramatic lighting ceremony, and runs until Jan. 4.

Other exciting holiday events across the county include Holiday Lights on the Farm at Muscoot Farm in Katonah (beginning Dec. 5); Holiday Classic Mansion tour of Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown; Glenview Holiday Tour at Hudson River Museum in Yonkers (beginning Nov.28); Holiday on the Hudson at Monteverde at Oldestone, Cortlandt Manor (Nov. 22–Jan.4); and Downtown White Plains Holiday Market (Dec. 6–17).
