Destinations / Asia

It’s not like Trisara Resort even needs to distract guests with things to do. After all, each of the two- to seven-bedroom villas at this luxury resort on Phuket’s northwest coast comes with its own private infinity pool that overlooks either the Andaman Sea or tropical gardens. The private beachfront is dotted with lounge chairs and palm chairs aplenty as well as hammocks on which to laze. And the huge oceanfront infinity lap pool has built-in loungers, whirlpool jets and a multi-tiered patioscape. But the property also offers so much more.

Trisara exceeds expectations in every single area, including in its selection of curated, personalized activities and excursions. Guests can take a one-hour snorkel to the small island in front of the resort, a half-day cruise to Phang Nga Bay (known as “James Bond Beach” as it was featured in the film The Man With the Golden Gun) or a full-day trip to the Similan Islands on a luxury cruiser. And the ever-popular Sunset Cruise leaves right from the private beach via the only jetty on Phuket’s west coast. Anyone interested in mastering Thai cuisine can book a private cooking class with or without a tour to the resort’s garden PRU Jampa where ingredients are sourced for its three restaurants (including recently Michelin-starred PRU). And a guided tour of Old Town Phuket provides a peek into the island’s colorful history and Sino-Portuguese architecture.

Kids who want to get their sea legs can sign up for the Trisara Junior Sea Master Course, a three-day seamanship discovery aimed to provide a new appreciation for and understanding of the sea and what lives in it. For an hour-and-a-half each day, would-be captains master the intricacies of the wind and sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking and managing dinghies. On the final day they assist the captain as a crew member onboard Trisara 1, or, if they prefer, checking out undersea creatures on a snorkeling excursion with other guests. The course includes a branded polo shirt, captain or pirate cap, Sea Master Certificate and photos by resort photographer DDen.

If honing their skills in Thai cuisine is more their thing, kids can book the Trisara Junior Master Chef class. Modeled after the one offered adults, the class (which can be done all at one time or spread out over three days) includes instruction in learning to prepare three authentic dishes ranging from green papaya salad to tom yum soup to massaman curry; a recipe book to replicate the meal at home; apron, chef’s hat, certificate from the executive chef; and photos of the junior chef in action captured by DDen.

And other authentic activities, like batik painting or soap making, give the whole family a taste of Thai culture.

When families aren’t busy learning a new skill during one of Trisara’s immersive experiences they can relax in one of the brand-new, full-service private beach cabanas. Overlooking the Andaman Sea, the cabanas are equipped with premium non-alcoholic beverage options and products from the Jara skincare line including refreshing facial mist and sunscreen. Each cabana also touts a private daybed, two outdoor sun beds, a dining table, minibar, WiFi and binoculars to take at the snorkelers and boats at the small island directly in front of the resort. Kids (and parents) will have a blast sitting on the edge of the sands spotting sea turtles, or adding to their collection of sea glass, pink coral and shells.

And that private villa pool is only ever steps away.
