Why Group Tours are Great for Families

Destinations

I’ve been to more than 90 countries on six continents. For years, I insisted on traveling independently even though that meant pouring hours into planning and troubleshooting any issues that arose on my own. All of that changed when I needed to cancel a family vacation at the last minute due to geopolitical events. I was determined not to let a change in plans derail my family’s holiday, but I needed a quick solution since I didn’t have time to plan a trip from scratch on such short notice.

I quickly settled on one of Intrepid Travel’s family group tours to Morocco. I selected Intrepid because they specifically design family-friendly trips, and they keep groups small. I knew everyone else on the tour would have children, which meant my kids would have instant friends. Plus, the tour included family-friendly activities, such as a kid-friendly cooking class and plenty of time for swimming in our hotels’ pools.

Although I was nervous about joining a group tour, it turned out to be one of our best family vacations ever. Having a local guide meant my children learned more about Moroccan history and culture than they would have if we had explored on our own. My kids and I both enjoyed traveling with other families.

Although I love my kids, it was nice to talk to other adults and get a break when they played with other children in the group. As a busy mom, I appreciated not having to worry about our schedule every day, since someone else was taking care of planning activities, getting us to our hotel and recommending restaurants. Traveling with a group meant I could relax and enjoy time with my family more because I wasn’t distracted by logistics.

Taking a family group tour changed the way I travel. I’ve since been on three other family group tours with Intrepid, to Japan, India and Jordan, and I’m planning another over the summer.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.
