Multigenerational travel was one of 2018’s biggest trends, but finding destinations and activities everyone can enjoy is a challenge. This winter EAST, Beijing offers guests a Family Weekend Staycation Package with everything from cooking classes to tents for the kids.
The 369-room hotel is located at INDIGO, a new retail and mixed-use project by Swire Properties in Beijing’s Jiangtai, Chaoyang District. The first thing to know is the property is easy to get to. It’s about 15 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from Beijing South Railway Station, which offers fast connections to Tianjin and Shanghai.
Once there, you and the kids can relax in the indoor swimming pool, work out at the fully equipped gym and dine at either of the two restaurants.

To lure families, the hotel’s Family Time package packs your EAST Studio guestroom with sweets, a puzzle, kid-sized bathrobes and slippers and a goodie bag filled with custom EAST souvenirs — including Beijing-themed coloring books, colored pencils, EAST Dinosaur stickers and EAST postcards.
The highlight is an in-room tent and extra bed set up with toys for the little one, as well family restaurant benefits Mom and Dad will appreciate.
Don’t let the name of your accommodations fool you — the EAST Studios boast nearly 755 square feet of floor space, decked out with king-sized beds; toiletries by Appelles, an Australian skin and hair care brand; complimentary WiFi; Bose mini-speaker; and a Nespresso coffee machine.

For once you won’t have to warn the kids away from the minibar (the contents are free), and the Feast (Food by EAST) restaurant dazzles with salads, imported cheese, pasta, seafood, fresh vegetables, dim sum, noodles, bread, fruit and desserts, along with cooked-to-order classic dishes. You can also tack on a drinks package for about $43 that includes soft drinks, coffee, tea, beer and house wines.
Little guests with special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice, and all kids aged 6 and under eat free. Those aged 7-12 dine for half price.

On the theory that children put fun front and center of any vacation experience, the property also offers a Kids’ Corner with an assortment of play sets, picture books, Legos, play cars, train sets, toys with popular cartoons and screenings of the latest kids’ movies.
Families can unwind at EAST’s nearly 53-foot heated indoor swimming pool, which overlooks Beijing’s city streets and boasts a relaxing vibe, or they can add such optional activities as a Little Chef’s cooking class at Domain, featuring a seasonal, monthly, themed class.
Meanwhile culture buffs can explore the galleries and studios of the neighboring 798 Art District, located 10 minutes from the hotel.
The EAST Family Weekend Staycation package includes accommodations in an EAST Studio room, the tent and extra bed; daily breakfast at Feast (Food by EAST); kids’ amenities; access to the Beast (Body by EAST) gym and swimming pool; 20 percent off dining; and late check-out subject to availability.
Rates start at about $331 per person per night for two adults and one child under 12.
