Wild Dunes Resort

Travel Tips

Unplug and unwind at Wild Dunes Resort in South Carolina this spring with packages that will get you and the kids outdoors for some healthy family bonding. From cycling to water sports — or just a day at the beach — the hotel offers a menu of activities for just about everyone in your group.

The resort property is located about 30 minutes from downtown Charleston, but once you and your brood check in, you’ll feel like you’re in another world. To make the most of your stay, choose from four ecotourism excursions that will get you out of your guestroom and onto the water.

The Tidal Wave Water Sports excursion, for example, is a good fit for the can’t-sit-still types who want to try their hand at jet skiing, waterskiing or wakeboarding. Or, opt for the Capers Island Wildlife Boat Excursion, which works especially well if you want to mingle with larger groups on an outing to one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands. Best of all, the journey is half the fun, with its tidal creeks teaming with diverse wildlife.

Fitness buffs can try stand-up paddleboarding yoga or core fitness tours for a kind of floating wellness retreat. If that sounds a little too challenging, newbies and experts alike are invited to join a half-day kayak tour of Charleston and the Lowcountry.

Good through April 21, the ecotourism packages include three nights’ accommodations, daily breakfast at Huey’s Southern Eats, a full-day bike rental and a welcome amenity.

Or time your stay to arrive before May 24 and you can take advantage of the Spring to the Beach package that trims 20 percent from accommodations in a variety of settings and price points.

The resort offers a concierge team on hand to help you plan your activities, from golf or tennis, fishing and eco tours, dining at any of the six on-site restaurants and treatments at the Sand & Sea Spa.

Younger kids can take advantage of the resort’s Dune Bug Club, scavenger hunts and Family Nights on the Plaza, as well as junior paddleboarding, kayaking, indigo-dying, beach walking, basket weaving, golfing at the Harbor and Links courses and biking.

The property, a Destination Hotel, is located on the northern tip of Isle of Palms, a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. The resort, open year-round, occupies 1,600 acres of oceanfront real estate, and accommodations range from the AAA Four-Diamond-rated Boardwalk Inn and the Village at Wild Dunes to private condos and luxury home vacation rentals.

Destination Hotels is a collection of independent hotels, resorts and residences across North America that joined Hyatt in late 2018.
