When the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles seem a little too plastic for your Southern California vacation, head into the desert for some old-fashioned class at the Parker, a lavish, 5-star hotel in Palm Springs where form and function meet style and luxury.

The Parker is all about providing an experience, not just a stay. Indoors the hotel is decked out in eclectic artwork and quirky touches throughout, from geometric designs on the rugs to the Mid-Century Modern furniture. Private rooms, common areas and everything in between are designed with classic Palm Springs style — plenty of natural light and indulgent touches everywhere. Outdoors the white walls draped in brilliant red bougainvillea under canopies of palm trees create the quintessential desert experience.

Spaces like a 70s-styled lounge complete with indoor fire pit and secluded gardens with hammocks and outdoor fire pits encourage indulgent relaxation at every turn. The hotel’s eccentric design style evokes memories of watching an episode of Mad Men, but, rather than living vicariously through John Hamm, you get to enjoy the luxury firsthand.

Afternoons are a great time to go for a swim or play a competitive game of pétanque, a French game similar to bocce ball. The indoor pool is reminiscent of a palace that once belonged to the Greek gods with its starkly contrasting blue-and-white cabanas while the outdoor pool continues this theme under the warm desert sun. Cool off with a drink at the Lemonade Stand, the outdoor bar next to the pétanque court and pool where you can sip your spiked beverages under a bright yellow umbrella.

Evenings at the Parker are a great time to enjoy the cooler temperatures under the expansive desert sky. Make a romantic dinner reservation for Mrs. Parker’s, the hotel’s “restaurant for two.” This unique restaurant puts you and your special someone poolside with a personal butler and chef for a fine-dining experience all to yourselves.

For a more traditional meal head indoors to Mister Parker’s for dinner and drinks amid a dark-toned dining room packed with random artwork. The mirrored ceilings and high-backed chairs give the feel of a mobster’s hangout, complete with a pianist tickling the ivories while you dine.

Rooms vary depending on how much privacy you are looking for. Hammock rooms provide a minimalist space where you can easily achieve your goals of total relaxation or you can opt for the ultimate Parker experience with the Gene Autry Residence – a free-standing suite with its own private entrance, two bedrooms, a dining room and an outdoor space perfect for entertaining. This opulent option lets you enjoy your Parker stay as if you were residing in your own private desert hideaway.
