Family travel will be bigger than ever in 2023. Jeremy Clubb, founder, Rainforest Cruises, offers insight into multigenerational travel trends for the coming year.
Traveling with three or more generations of family increases in popularity for 2023. Multigenerational travelers want to make up for lost time during the pandemic by booking family trips, including with extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
“The pandemic has given many people a new perspective on life in general, which then stems down to travel and who we vacation with. It really has highlighted the importance of spending time with our loved ones as you never know what tomorrow will bring,” said Clubb.
Clubb recommends multigenerational travelers pick the destination together. Consider everyone’s preferences and needs when deciding where to go.
Stay flexible during the trip. Particularly with larger groups, some family members may not be able to participate in certain activities, so it is important to stay open to changing plans, even at the last minute.
Try new things. Be open to new experiences or activities you may not have tried before. Taking an interest in others’ hobbies brings you closer together as a family.
Allow time for separate experiences. While the point of multigenerational travel is family time together, it is important to give each other space when needed. Plan for some downtime, whether it’s splitting off for a meal or hanging back at the hotel while others go on an excursion.
