If you’re like a lot of us, you probably made a New Year’s resolution to get — or stay — healthy this year. Now that January’s passed, many of those resolutions may be left in the rearview mirror along with the start of 2018. But they don’t have to be! Here, we take a look at three ways to keep your resolutions, even when you’re on the road.
Take It With You
One of the biggest challenges of maintaining healthy habits whilst traveling is keeping up with your workout routine. One way to do just that is to take it with you. If you’re training for a marathon, remember to bring your plan along — or take a picture of it with your phone — and lace up for a run. Or, if you’re like me and work out to a DVD at home, remember to pack it and pop it in your hotel room or rental home. Most have DVD players, so it is easier to get your sweat on. Another option is to stream workouts through websites such as BeachBody.com; for a nominal annual fee you have access to hours of various workouts so you don’t have to miss a beat.
Book a Room
If you stay at a Westin hotel, you’re in luck! Even if you forget your workout clothes, you can get your fitness in through the hotel brand’s Gear Lending program, through which you can borrow New Balance shoes and gear for a small charge. You can even work out in the privacy of your own room by reserving a WestinWORKOUT Room — exercise on your schedule using the in-room equipment. No excuses here!
Get Physical
A fun way to see a new destination is by being out in it. If the weather is nice, why not walk from spot to spot rather than taking a cab, subway or bus. Join a bike tour and ride along the streets and avenues that go beyond the popular sites. Hop into a kayak or atop a stand-up paddleboard for a different perspective. During a girls’ weekend in New York City last spring, my girlfriends and I wound up walking upwards of 30 miles over the course of two days without even realizing it! We were easily distracted by the sights and sounds, and didn’t feel the least bit guilty as we bit into our evening slices of pizza.
