Destinations / North America

Springtime is always a welcome breath of fresh air from the winter, but nowhere more so than in New York City. Bring the family and explore New York City’s best seasonal attractions and feel that springtime high. You’ll enjoy blooming trees, green parks and a general buzz about the city.

Something to Do

Bringing spring to New York City and washing away that winter snow is exactly what the Macy’s Flower Show is known for. Held at Macy’s Herald Square through April 8, the Once Upon a Springtime theme is just what we need to celebrate the changing season. The theme is perfect for kids and will pique their interest about the world of botanicals.

Explore the fantasy-themed floral arrangements and wide variety of fauna exhibits from an arrangement demonstration with Martha Stewart to paper flower and confection creations. The kids will love the sweets and fun floral creations, while you’ll have springtime takeaways for the trip home.

Seeing a show is a quintessential New York activity. Stop by the box office and see what is available — risky, but fun —or check out this list here and book something in advance.

Somewhere to Go

Green outdoor spaces in New York City are more common than you may think. Pack a picnic and stroll through Central Park, visiting the petting zoo and various springtime attractions, or head to Union Square for easy outdoor dining and shops.

Hop on the escalator up to the Elevated Acre — an acre-long park lined with budding trees and park benches above the foot traffic on the streets. Take in the sweeping views of the Brooklyn Bridge and stay for a movie with the kids.

Another lesser-known, but equally beautiful outdoor space is Sakura Park. Located in Morningside Heights alongside Grant’s Tomb with views of Riverside Church, Sakura Park is filled with cherry trees and plenty of space to picnic and enjoy the spring weather. Learn about the building’s history and significance to the neighborhood with a tour.

Many riverside cities offer scenic cruises, and some Baltic or Mediterranean ports have daytrips to nearby islands or coastal attractions. In several cities you can cruise the canals, and in Switzerland you can spend a day cruising on Lake Geneva, with sightseeing stops in lakeside towns.
