Age Specific / Kids

Still looking for the perfect summer diversion for your kids? Let them explore their passion for knights, wizards and all things medieval at a themed summer camp. Whether it’s for a day or a week, here are a few to choose from.

Guard Up Wizards & Warriors Summer STEM Camps in Burlington, Mass., have programs for kids of different ages. Teens from 15–19 can take part in the Blackwatch Teen Summer Camp where they’ll get the chance to role-play characters and protect the imaginary realm of Sidleterra from evil; Little Knight Summer Camp for ages 5–6 where kids will hone their techniques in foam sword training, craft magical items and engage in battles with giant spiders; and Wizards & Warriors Day, Overnight and Quest Summer Camps with costumes, role playing and educational adventures.

Planning a visit to England this summer? At Alnwick Castle in Northumberland, younger kids can spend a day attending the castle’s own Knights’ School. While decked out in replica costumes, they’ll take part in activities centered on learning the skills necessary to becoming a full-fledged knight, such as sword fighting, jousting and the finer points of castle siege techniques. Don’t blame us, please, if you come home from the grocery store this fall and your kids have dug a moat around the house.

At the weeklong Wizard Summer Camp 2018 in Beaumont, Texas, kids ages 5–12 will learn to make wands, refine the art of potion preparation and play Quidditch. The camp venue is the Clifton Steamboat Museum Complex. Dates can be found here.

Wildheart Nature School in Bend, Ore., has a selection of weeklong camps, all taking place at Wildheart’s Tumalo State Park location. During Summer Camp Witches and Wizards, participants ages 6–9 will study magical creatures, learn to make potions and craft their own personalized wizard staff that doubles as a walking stick. At Summer Camp Middle Earth Magicians for ages 7–10, kids will be thrust into a make-believe world populated by elves, trolls, hobbits and dwarves and take part in group challenges.

Kids ages 6–9 can learn the skills essential for successfully dealing with dragons during Summer Camp Dragon Riders. Activities include developing mapping skills, hunting for hidden treasure and taking part in adventure challenges.
