Traveling with your furry friend can be a blast, but sometimes it can be difficult finding places they can tag along, particularly when it comes to beaches. While it makes sense some shores are strict with pet policies, other times, you can’t see a reason not to bring Fido along.
If you’re on the West Coast and hunting for the perfect place you’ll both enjoy, choose one of these favorites!
In San Diego, you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly hotels and restaurants. Be sure you don’t miss the Original Dog Beach, recognized as the first off-leash dog park in the entire country! The picturesque and nationally famous beach allows dogs to run free, swim and even surf. In addition to this fun beach, you’ll also find San Diego has plenty of dog-friendly festivals and other events throughout the year.

Also in San Diego, Coronado Dog Beach is perfect for dogs that love splashing in the waves. You’ll even get a little bit of a hike in, as the parking options aren’t right on the beach. Keep your dog leashed until you reach the shore, then let them roam free for your entire stay.
Not too far away, in Orange County, Huntington Dog Beach attracts travelers from all over the Los Angeles area. The rules technically state you have to keep your dogs on a leash while there, but you’ll see the majority of dogs happily running about without one. To avoid any trouble, just make sure your dog is well behaved and listens to commands as required.
Near the beautiful city of Seattle, this park provides nine acres of fully fenced land, so you can go leash-free with no worries. The beach is great for wading and swimming, but the park also has hiking trails and all the amenities you might need for your dog, such as a water station and plastic bag dispensers.
Bainbridge Island has two things we love — dog-friendly beaches and dog-friendly wineries. Fay Bainbridge State Park provides plenty of space to run and play, plus lovely views of the mountains. After you’ve had your fill of the water, just head over to Bainbridge Vineyards for a tasting alongside your favorite travel companion.
