Get a jump on cookie decorating this year with a planned family day with the kids. Making cookies with the kids is a seasonal staple in most homes, but mix it up this year and enjoy a weekend away and wintertime in Chicago is always lined with scenic beauty and fun things to do.
Chicago’s Fairmount in Millennium Park welcomes families of all shapes and sizes to enjoy cookie making this holiday season. Kick off the winter family fun with a Kids Cookie Camp, Saturdays, 5–9 p.m., Dec. 1, 8 and 15. The limited engagement brings cookie-loving kids to the Windy City for an introductory course in all thinks baking.
Feel free to use this seasonal event as a built-in babysitter service, as the supervision is Sitters Studio professionals, fully first-aid certified and well versed in the world of kid-culinary adventures.
Enjoy a night out in Downtown Chicago for dinner and drinks while the little ones enjoy some time of their own.
During the Kids Cookie Camp, little chefs, ages 6–12, learn all about cookie baking from Fairmont’s own skilled pastry team, as well as enjoy a kids-only, winter-themed dinner — don’t worry, only after dinner do they dig into the cookie making. Between baking lessons, kids enjoy playing games, making crafts together and a movie — of course, all winter-themed.
In addition to the cookie making and baking lessons, the kids walk away with their own bundle of gourmet holiday cookies — they’re treated to a dozen at the end of the camp so try to infiltrate quickly before they’re all gone.
While overnight accommodations are included in the Kids Camp Package, the family enjoys plenty of perks together,. Reconvene over breakfast in the morning with stories about the kids’ night at camp. Enjoy the Fairmont’s buffet-style spread and the fact you didn’t have to clean up a messy kitchen from baking cookies all night.
While catching up with the kids after camp and your night out, enjoy stunning views of the Chicago skyline while planning your day out in the city. The Fairmont boasts vistas of Lake Michigan, downtown and holiday lights throughout the city. Located near Millennium Park, you can easily hop out for a winter stroll in the morning, taking in the beautiful winter city scenery.
