Multigenerational

Visiting hotels frequented by U.S. presidents is a great activity for family travel if your clan is full of history lovers. This President’s Day, book a stay at one of these hotels.

Hotel Alex Johnson

The historic Rapid City property hosted numerous famous guests over the decades. Presidents Calvin Coolidge, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan stayed in the property’s presidential suite — how fitting!

Hotel del Coronado

The iconic San Diego property has hosted several presidents, royals and other celebrities since opening in 1888. Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama have all been guests of the historic beachfront hotel.

Hotel Fairmont San Francisco

The property’s presidential suite takes up the entire eighth floor of the building. Spanning 6,000 square feet, the suite is rumored to have a secret passageway for discreet travel. The suite is popular among world leaders and celebrities. Its famous presidential guests include Presidents John F. Kennedy and Harry Truman.

The Menger Hotel

San Antonio’s The Menger Hotel is the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi River. The historic property served as an important enlistment location for the Spanish American War, with future president Theodore Roosevelt. Presidents William McKinley, William Howard Taft, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Bill Clinton were all guests at the hotel.

San Ysidro Ranch

San Ysidro Ranch features a Kennedy Cottage, a 2,700-square-foot retreat where John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy stayed during their honeymoon in 1953. The cottage is available to book.

Sea Island

The luxury property on the coast of Georgia hosted President Calvin Coolidge shortly after its opening in 1928. Coolidge planted a tree during his visit, which then became a presidential tradition. Oaks were planted to commemorate visits of Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
