It’s clear what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas — especially when it comes to hotel design and building trends. With the quest for exclusivity fueling humankind since pretty much the dawn of time, hotels and hospitality firms are finally getting with the times. Hotels within hotels offer larger brands the chance to try out new concepts on an audience looking for something a little outside of the big-name, 300-room, 300-square-foot standard.

Kicking off the concept in Nevada were two biggies: Mirage and MGM Grand.

There’s a private gated entry to the three-bedroom Villas at the Mirage, where 24-hour butlers and chef service await. Private backyard pools complement approximately 8,500 square feet of space, along with private concierges.

Mansion at MGM Grand’s one- and two-bedroom villas attempt to re-create the splendor of Tuscany. Just 29 residences range from 2,400 square feet to 12,000, and 21 one of them have views of the Italian gardens. There’s a private pool, dining room and spa treatment rooms, along with limousine, concierge and butler service.

The Nobu Hotel Miami Beach’s 206 posh rooms built inside a tower from noted Miami architect Morris Lapidus feature a Japanese motif that breaks away from the mold of the 61-year-old, 631-room Eden Roc Miami Beach hotel. There’s a 24-hour, in-room dining menu created especially for guests, a private fitness center overlooking the Atlantic, private fitness classes and priority seating at Malibu Farm and Nobu Miami. Villa Hosts (private concierges) are available for rental daily.

Also in Florida, the Flagler Club is a 25-room boutique enclave within the Breakers Palm Beach hotel. The top two floors of the hotel are set aside for customized minibars, a private lounge and rooftop access. Food throughout the day is complimentary with full breakfasts, light lunches, sunset cocktails, canapés and desserts. Premium spirits are free at the bar. Want to head out for an adult beverage? There’s a chauffeured Tesla for local transportation, chauffeured airport transfers and 19 staff members dedicated solely to Flagler Club guests.

Canyon Suites is an exclusive 60-room boutique hotel at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona, where there’s an enhanced and included continental breakfast, arrival amenities, priority reservations at Phoenician restaurants and venues, and airport transportation.

Hideaway at Royalton Riviera is an adults-only haven with complimentary extras like chocolate and Champagne parties, aromatherapy in rooms and suites, 24-hour concierge service and personalized beach bags.

Norwegian Cruise Line is getting onboard with The Haven (on select ships), an all-suite setup separate from other standard and suite cabins. There are lavish breakfasts and lunches with a dedicated concierge and access to a private courtyard with a pool, hot tubs, sauna and sun deck. There’s also priority disembarkation, assisted by the concierge.

You don’t need to travel far to find them blooming in front yards and, in spring, displays of tulips paint parks and botanic gardens from Maine to Texas. A few places go all out with annual tulip festivals that are perfect spring trips for families.
