Travel Tips

Those precious summer months while the kids are still home from school and everyone’s itching to soak up all the sun-doused nature they can are the perfect season to explore. Whether you’ve been meaning to head out into the nation’s many stunning parks this season or you’re already a pro looking for one more before the end of the season, Yosemite National Park is open for business.

Consider a big family adventure through a national park can be quite an undertaking, depending on your kid’s ages and outdoor prowess. Immerse yourself in the wild with the help of REI Co-op and AutoCamp, boasting a new partnership helping families and adventure travelers get the most out of the summer season in Yosemite National Park.

Choose from six new fully guided day tours for a completely one-with-nature experience REI is known for, but with the added ease and comforts of AutoCamp’s newly opened high-end outdoor lodging property.

Book all the REI expert-led wilderness hikes you can handle by day, knowing the comforts of an Airstream or luxury tent are waiting your family at night.

Each hike is manageable for beginners to moderately experienced hikers, with plenty of guidance along the way when needed. Taking advantage of the well-planned hikes and tours is a great way to fully appreciate the wonders of the great, wide-open outdoors of Yosemite without having to stress about planning, mapping out a trail and staying on track. Leave that to the experts.

Day tours tend to last about four–seven hours and include insider information about local wildlife, plant life and park information.

Hikes and tours also include a gourmet lunch to fuel you for the rest of your trek, various on-the-go snacks, water to stay hydrated and daypacks and trekking poles to use. Prices begin at $55 per person.

Guests can arrange transportation to and from home base, AutoCamp, as it is about 45 minutes from Yosemite National Park’s central valley. Private transfer, or Yosemite’s extensive public transit services, will then bring campers to the meeting location for the tour.

Check-in AutoCamp’s luxury digs for the night, with rates beginning at $200 per night. If the kids, or adults, forget anything in their packs, AutoCamp’s clubhouse at the center of camp is fully loaded with showers, luxury bathrooms, shops and swimming pool.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Gets a New Rollercoaster

Myrtle Beach already has plenty of ways to entertain families, from 60 miles of beaches to the Carolina Opry and absolutely everything in between. But one spot families love to visit, Family Kingdom, is about to get a brand-new attraction, and we hope it will be unveiled before the kiddos head back to school.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.

What Makes Hartford, Connecticut, a Great Summer Destination

The Connecticut River flows through the heart of Hartford, and its shoreline provides the city with some of its favorite summer pastimes for families. Four public parks are connected by riverwalks. Mortensen Riverfront Plaza is at the center, with a riverfront stage and a hillside of grassy terraces where as many as 2,500 people gather to watch the dragon boats during the annual Riverfront Asian Festival in August.
