If you have a nature-loving family, the Resort at Paws Up offers something for everyone. This dude ranch-style resort lies on 37,000 acres of rugged Montana wilderness and offers an authentic experience for the whole family, along with indulgent luxury amidst the stunning beauty of nature.

Every member of the family will find something exciting to do during your stay. Younger guests will love the kid-friendly activities, like the Junior Wrangler Program and the Kids Corps of Discovery (the resort’s adventure club for younger guests), which offers special -curated activity itineraries from toddlers to teens ,with activities like go-kart racing, pony-rides, archery and water sports.

For teen and adult guests there are plenty of dude ranch activities, including cattle drives and horseback riding along with outdoor adventures like hiking, rafting, kayaking and rappelling — all synonymous with a trip to the Montana wilderness. There are even outdoor skill courses to explore, like the equine obstacle course and the Grizzlyman Fitness Trail to challenge you.

For those looking for a laid-back itinerary, there are photography, painting and jewelry-making workshops as well as fly-fishing, horse-drawn carriage rides and hot-air ballooning.

The action continues into the evening with events like Campfire Stars, which offers surprise visits from celebrity country musicians to provide evening entertainment under the stars.

When your family isn’t busy enjoying the resort’s endless list of activities, relax and enjoy some of the luxurious amenities. Heated bathroom floors and rain showers are just some of the indulgent touches Paws Up offers to let guests experience roughing it in style.

The spa also caters to the whole family with an extensive list of treatments for everyone from children to expecting mothers. Located in a series of rustic-looking tents during the summer months and in the equestrian center during the winter months, this luxury spa also includes a fitness center and offers wellness classes like yoga for both adults and kids.

When it comes to dining, Paws Up continues to deliver. Whether it be decadent dishes created by Executive Chef Sunny Jin or campfire snacks created by a trained S’Morelogist (because Paws Up takes s’mores seriously!), meals are always an event at the resort. Guests can enjoy a fine-dining experience at Pomp Restaurant, a casual experience at Tank Restaurant or enjoy a meal outdoors with the Chuck Wagon Dude Ranch Experience.

During the summer months stays require a four-night minimum stay and families can choose between one- and two-bedroom luxury glamping tents located along the Blackfoot River or nestled among the pine trees. For a log cabin-style experience there are private homes available throughout the property ranging two–four bedrooms that sleep up to eight people each.

Multigenerational fun at Paws Up doesn’t just include the human members of the family. Not only are pets welcome year-round, but there are even special events catering to them. The annual Wine & Bitch Dinner in August is a great example — a customized meal with wine and desert pairings, along with treats created just for furry guests. The event is part of a pet-friendly weekend, including the annual Canine Classic hike the following day. To further enhance your pet’s experience at Paws Up, the spa even offers pet massages. The resort believes people are best greeted by furry friends with their paws up on fences and Paws Up makes sure every guest feels like they’ve come home.

What is a Salvaged Stay and How to Plan One

Salvaged stays are an emerging trend in travel that let family travelers enjoy a unique way to experience a destination. Rather than staying in a destination’s big-ticket resort hotel or a cookie-cutter vacation rental, travelers look to the world’s repurposed properties, like abandoned mills and defunct train stations-turned-hotels that have found new life. These renovated properties are a lesson in sustainability and give families a chance to discover a unique view of the history of a destination.
