In April, Skytrax named Qatar’s Hamad International Airport No. 1 in the world for 2024, and the timing couldn’t be better. This month, the airport in Doha also celebrates its 10th anniversary and its many amazing experiences that helped it become a favorite among family travelers.
In its 10 years as the main airport of Qatar, Hamad International positioned itself as a passenger-first lifestyle destination, offering far more than a simple point of entry to this Middle East destination and a convenient transfer location for passengers crossing the globe.
This milestone anniversary was celebrated with numerous immersive activations across the airport on May 15 that highlighted Qatar’s rich cultural heritage and those of destinations around the world. The celebrations included cultural dance and musical performances from Asia, Africa and Latin America, along with a traditional sword dance from Qatar known as Ardha. These performances showcased various attractions around the airport, like ORCHARD, an indoor tropical garden that gives guests a refreshing and rejuvenating break during their travels.
No matter how much time you have at Hamad, you will find plenty of ways to entertain the family with world-class shopping and dining; art installations; and the Vitality Wellbeing and Fitness Center, which includes a spa, gym, squash court, golf simulator and a 25-meter swimming pool — all located within the airport.
Travelers with lengthy layovers find plenty of ways to pass the time, making it an ideal transfer airport for families. Tours can be arranged within the airport itself, and those with longer layovers can arrange for tours that allow them to explore the city of Doha, experience the beauty of the surrounding desert and even view whale sharks.
In addition to the many great experiences to be had throughout the airport, the facilities themselves are quite impressive. Spanning 8.5 square meters with a 7,965-square-foot passenger terminal, Hamad International can accommodate 170 aircraft and features thoughtful touches like 32 parent rooms, 17 quiet rooms and two unaccompanied minor lounges, all of which have helped position the airport as a leader in passenger-friendly travel. With so many forward-thinking features and experiences incorporated into the airport’s design, it’s no wonder it has thrived in its 10 years. It will be exciting to see what the next 10 years bring for Qatar’s Hamad International Airport.
