Spring is a time to celebrate the renewal of life and what better way to enjoy the season than by celebrating the renewal of love. This spring take time to sneak away for a couple’s weekend by visiting the romantic little coastal hideaway of Morro Bay.
Nestled on California’s Central Coast in San Luis Obispo County, Morro Bay is the perfect place for couples to recharge and reconnect with each other and with nature. It’s a place where you can enjoy the beauty of the Pacific without the crowds and pressures of a big city, making it the ideal place to unwind and rekindle your romance.
The sleepy town sits on a quiet bay and boasts more than six miles of sandy beach in addition to the harbor that gives a glimpse into the real-life workings of a modern fishing village. It is home to one of the most iconic sceneries on the Pacific Coast, the famous Morro Rock. This gigantic, 23-million-year-old rock feature (the rock is actually a ‘volvanic plug’ from an extinct volcano), is the prominent feature in the peaceful bay. As the sun sets lazily behind this rock into the depths of the Pacific each night, the effect is one of the most romantic sunsets California has to offer.

Book your stay in one of the many hotels overlooking the bay so you can enjoy the view and relax to the soothing sound of the gentle surf. The Inn at Morro Bay offers bay- and garden-view rooms as well as romantic water-front cottages. In addition to comfortable, well-appointed rooms, the hotel has a heated pool and Jacuzzi along with a great restaurant featuring local, seasonal ingredients.
It would be a shame to spend a weekend on the California Coast without taking advantage of the top-notch cuisine the state is famous for. With the beautiful bay as a romantic backdrop, couples can enjoy some amazing dining options like Blue Sky Bistro, which sits right on the harbor so you can enjoy a beautiful sunset on the bay while you dine on a meal of fresh Pacific seafood.

No romantic weekend would be complete without a little wine and Morro Bay has plenty of it. San Luis Obispo County is famous for its regional wines and there are more than ample opportunities to experience it at one of the many local wineries in town. Visit one of the tasting rooms, like Cuatro Dias or Chateu Margene, or stop in at one of the many bars and pubs along the waterfront to enjoy some local dishes and live entertainment.
If noisy crowds and dining out cramp your romantic style then pick up some sandwiches at one of the local bakeries like La Pariesienne (a great place to fuel up in the morning with a buttery croissant and cup of aromatic coffee), grab a blanket and hit the beach with a bottle of wine for a picnic on the sand.
