A trip to the Land Down Under is even more fun when you and your family take off from Brisbane for a few days to stay at Tangalooma Island Resort. A veritable playground for everyone in the family, everyone will have a blast!
Upon arrival and after checking into your accommodations, ranging from standard hotel rooms to beachfront villas, get onto the beach. Take a stroll, splash in the water and make plans for how you will spend your island time.
The youngest kids will enjoy not only playing on the beach, but the wildlife encounters offered, too. Daily feedings of the Kookaburras are always a hit, and a chance to see these iconic Australian birds up close. The free activity lasts about 15 minutes, perfect for young minds that start to get distracted after much more time.
Banana boat rides are always fun for the entire family, and after you are already wet, grab your snorkels and watch the fish and marine life live their lives under the sea. The resort offers guided snorkeling tours, too, including snorkeling amongst local wrecks.
On land, there are plenty of ways to have fun, too! Rent fat-wheeled beach bikes, or go on a Segway tour. Or, if you and your family are looking for a bit more adventure, check out the ATV Quad Bikes that allow you to explore the island’s beaches and bushland. For even more land-based thrills, take the Desert Safari Tour, which culminates with sand tobogganing. Take a plain wooden board, wax it up, get on your belly (head first) and slide down a giant sand dune. It’s exhilarating!
When the sun sets over the ocean, the activities continue at Tangalooma Island Resort. An Illuminated Wrecks Tour visits the same shipwrecks you may have visited on a snorkeling tour, with a different view — see nocturnal creatures through the windows of a glass-bottom boat. If the timing is right, you may even get to witness bioluminescence.
One of the highlights of a visit to the resort is hand feeding the pod of resident dolphins who have delighted guests for years. The dolphin-feeding program is overseen by a team of eco-rangers and staff who have the dolphins’ welfare in mind, and they follow strict guidelines to ensure their safety.
