Italy’s sweeping beauty, history and charming towns lend well to romantic getaways, family vacations, solo expeditions and everything in between. From outdoor adventures, luxury stays and incredible wine and cuisine, there is something for everyone. Tour the incredible coastline from Naples to Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Salerno, or opt for professional guidance.

Thomson Family Adventures offers a scenic, active and indulgent 11-day tour from Amalfi to Sicily, specifically designed for families. The Southern Italy: Amalfi, Vulcano and Sicily tour is a must for first-time travelers exploring the southern coast of Italy — whether exploring family heritage or just taking in the culture.

The tour begins in Amalfi with a kayak excursion through natural caves and rock arches along the turquoise water — all before exploring the ancient city of Pompeii. Hike to the top of Mt. Vesuvius and explore the ancient ruins of the city, preserved from the volcano’s eruption in 79 A.D. Travel back in time and learn about the incredible true history of Pompeii and its people.

A trip to Amalfi wouldn’t be complete without an obligatory daytrip to Capri. The tiny island off the coast of Italy is comprised of two towns, Capri and Anacapri. Both sides boast sweeping views of the ocean, epic cliffs and endless shops and restaurants. Taste homemade limoncello and venture through the famous Blue Grotto by rowboat.

On the fifth day of your 11-day tour, enjoy a classic family dinner in Messina. Wine, dine and walk around town before venturing to Vulcano for two days.

Vulcano is a uniquely Italian destination complete with dormant crater Fossa di Vulcano, stretching higher than 1,000 feet. Head out on the calm ocean waters, kayaking around the island. Explore natural hot springs and black-sand beaches before heading back for a wine pairing and pizza-making class for dinner.

After dinner, do as the Italians do and go for a walk — or in this case, hike Sciara del Fuoco. Considering Sciara del Fuoco translates to “stream of fire,” the kids will have something to brag about and you’ll enjoy the incredible view of the city of Stromboli below.

On the last few days of the tour, enjoy pastries, ocean views, old-city life and family adventures through Sicily.

Where Can You Find Both Bioluminescence and Rockets in Florida?

Mysterious glowing seas? Yes, actually! Through October, Florida’s Space Coast waters within Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River and Indian River Lagoon glow with blue-green bioluminescence — a phenomenon resulting from the presence of comb jellies and dinoflagellates (tiny, single-celled marine plankton that exist in some freshwater locations).
