Travel Tips

It’s back! Kids obsessed with Disney Pixar’s Toy Story franchise have a lot to celebrate this summer with the June 20 release of Toy Story 4, which already garnered glowing reviews. To help families maximize the fun and incorporate the movie into their summer vacation, Pixar is collaborating with luxury resort Rosewood Mayakoba to celebrate the film’s release with themed surprises for families traveling to Riviera Maya through Sept. 30.

The fun starts at check-in, when families are invited to pose for a welcome photo with old friends like Woody, Jessie, Andy, Mr. Potato Head and Buzz Lightyear. Kids also receive a movie-inspired welcome amenity, and each day themed activities will be available throughout the resort.

Meanwhile, Mom and Dad will appreciate a 50 percent discount on a second suite (children under 12 always stay for free in the same room as their parents), daily breakfast for two at Casa del Lago Restaurant, free dining for children age 4 and younger, daily fresh fruit and bottled water, butler service and a private outdoor heated plunge pool and terrace.

The resort’s Toy Story adventures are offered in addition to the year-round Rosewood Explorers program, where young guests can participate in entertainment activities, theme nights and children’s spa treatments. Sample activities include yoga classes, scavenger hunts, pizza- and cookie-making classes and themed nights, such as Mexican Night, Pirate Night, Pajama Party and Mayan Celebration.

The property also strives to awaken children’s awareness of the environment and conservation with games like EcoBingo and EcoTours, which include a boat tour accompanied by a biologist who talks about the flora and fauna. Other activities include Spanish and Mayan lessons and Mayan storytelling. Some activities incur an extra charge and are available only in high season.

The property is situated within a 1,600-acre resort enclave in the Riviera Maya on a mile-long beach. Accommodations include 129 suites and seven private villas with plunge pools, garden showers and individual docks.

Resort amenities include a signature Greg Norman championship golf course, and preferential tee times can be arranged through the concierge. The resort also provides complimentary transportation to and from the course. Other features include fine dining at Casa del Lago and Punta Bonita and the Rosewood Explorers club for children. The property also offers a Sense spa, located on a private island and designed around a cenote, one of the sacred water wells of the ancient Mayans. The resort was built according to strict eco-standards and has recently been awarded the Rainforest Alliance Certification.
