What kid doesn’t love a tree house? If there’s no leafy hideaway in your own backyard, perhaps vacation is the perfect time to find one. Don’t worry, parents. These aren’t your typical tree houses. Luxurious, with all the amenities you could need, these elaborate hideaways are far from average.

Tree House Lodge

For a true, tropical treehouse experience, Tree House Lodge in Costa Rica checks all the right boxes. The independent property features five open-air accommodation choices. A perfect pick for families who want a unique Caribbean experience, the property is quiet and relaxing, while still offering plenty of activities, from canopy tours to white water rafting.

The airy tree house sits on stilts, surrounded by dense foliage. It’s accessed via a sloped wooden suspension bridge and offers a downstairs with two beds and a kitchen and an upstairs with one bed and a bathroom. All furnishings are hand-carved from sustainable wood and the outdoor shower is sheltered by a century-old Sangrillo tree. Other amenities include a hot tub.

Winvian Farm

To try the treehouse life without leaving the States, head to Winvian Farm in Connecticut. The AAA Four Diamond property offers a large cottage-style treehouse 35 feet above the ground. The first floor boasts a gas fireplace, steam shower and Jacuzzi, while the second provides a second fireplace, full bar and views of the New England forestry.

While on the 13-acre property, families enjoy 5-star dining, a luxury spa and a 40-foot swimming pool. Family-friendly activities include tours of local farms and trips to nearby museums.

Aqua Wellness Resort

In Nicaragua, guests at Aqua Wellness Resort can choose from three types of tree house accommodations.

The luxury tree house studios provide one bed, an ensuite, outdoor showers, balconies and private plunge pools. Luxury tree house suites are more spacious, with one bed and accommodations for a small child, an ensuite with teak shower, lounge, full kitchen, deck with seating and a private plunge pool. The luxury tree house villa is more suitable for families, as it sleeps four to six people and offers a dining area, lounge, multiple bathrooms, full kitchen, deck with seating and private plunge pool.

Chaa Creek

Lastly, Belize’s Chaa Creek resort provides tree top suites high above the Macal River. Each suite comes with one bedroom, but can also accommodate families of up to four. Amenities include Jacuzzis, verandas, full breakfasts and complimentary on-site activities. The family-friendly complimentary options include entry into the rainforest reserve; tours of the natural history center, butterfly farm and medicinal plant trail; access to the Maya trail system; river canoeing; and guided bird walks.

How to Find the Best Gelato (And Spot the Fake Stuff) on Your Travels Through Rome

Rome is a city full of musts for visitors. You must visit the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps. And the list goes on, all the way down to trying gelato. No trip to Rome would be complete without the obligatory sweet treat, and for good reason. Gelato is delicious, refreshing and it comes in every flavor you can imagine. But while you can find it just about everywhere you turn in the Eternal City, it’s important to know not all gelatos are created equal. The city is brimming with fakes, and once you know how to tell the difference, not only will you see the fake stuff everywhere, but you will also refuse to settle for less than authentic.
