Whether planning a big family trip with all the activity the kids can handle — hikes, climbs and scenic adventures — or just dipping your toe into fitness this year, you can still do it in style.

Travel to that far-off destination you’ve been meaning to visit with a day or two set aside for a hiking excursion. When visiting an already bucket-list destination, you can expect the hikes will be well worth the trip.

One the Kids Can Do

Monserrate, Colombia

Boasting sweeping views of the surprisingly expansive city of Bogotá, the hike to Monserrate in Colombia leads to a truly beautiful view. Plan for some high elevation and pace yourself, as well as your breathing, for this climb, as it reaches about 10,341 feet. The climb itself isn’t incredibly challenging, just steep, but can take about an hour to reach the top. After the hike, treat the kids to a funicular ride down — same great view, but a lot less walking.

Cat Cat Village in Sapa, Vietnam

Vietnam is an underrated gem in the hiking world. The quiet villages, lush green hills and stunning rice fields make for the perfect escape for adventure seekers. You can build your own adventure here, opting for various hiking tours, depending on your family’s athleticism. On the border of China and Vietnam, Sapa offers one of the most travel-worthy hikes through Cat Cat Village. Expect to see rice fields, waterfalls and wildlife.

Villarrica Volcano, Chile

Villarrica is an active volcano in Chile, which last erupted in March 2017, and safe to hike — sounds like a lie, but there are experts monitoring the volcano at all hours. Hike with the family and a guide to the volcano’s peak and watch the bubbling lava from a safe distance. The hike is intense and a true workout, so make sure your crew is up for it.

One for Experienced Hikers

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland

Choosing a trail in Newfoundland’s Gros Morne National Park will be one of the more difficult aspects of your trip. Sure, the hike will be a challenge, too, depending on the trail, but the views will lead you through, undoubtedly. The diverse range of stunning vistas at this national park are unending.

Whatever your family decides, don’t rush — start your own bucket-list hiking planner and take your time: This scenery is not to be hurried through.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.
