London is an ideal destination for all ages, which makes it an especially fun getaway for families. Please even the most difficult guests, like your little ones and toddlers, with this list of family-friendly and kid-approved London locales.
First and foremost, there are museums galore all over London with your toddlers and young ones specifically in mind. Learn about industry, history and English culture with fun, hand- on activities and the endless ability to play and explore.
Visit the Geffrye Museum for a walk through a timeline of traditional English interiors and gardens. Be sure to download an activity sheet for the kids to follow along and enjoy toddler-friendly activities.
If the kids are more interested in the world of transportation, make a pit stop at the London Transport Museum and work with the kids to repair a miniature Tube train or hop in the driver’s seat of an authentic London bus. Let the kids play with the buttons and gadgets they can get their hands on — all in the All Aboard family play zone.
Over in the National Maritime Museum, kids can get their hands on play shovels and tools to help keep the vessel engine running or push themselves around in a toddler-sized boat of their own. There are exhibits for every age and special events constantly on the calendar, including Play Tuesdays where kids ages 5 and younger can explore the museum along with stories and music.
If all other museum themes fail, chances are you can get your toddler excited about dinosaurs. At the Natural History Museum, your mini Darwins can explore the science lab, investigate historical finds or even feel the roar of a giant T-Rex. Hop in the earthquake machine to feel the rattling sensation or just explore the unique exhibits throughout the museum at your own pace.
Another way to spend the day with kids in the city? Enjoy all the wide-open green spaces. Check out the stunning Hyde Park in the heart of London or stroll down Crystal Palace Park. The little ones can feed the birds and enjoy the fresh air while getting some exercise — or just tiring them out before getting back for dinner and a show.
If you really want to tire them out, head to Tumble Bay Playground. This interactive park includes climbing walls for the older kids; splash through the waterworks fountain in the warmer months and relax at the community center and café with refreshments. Between the rope swings and play areas and exploring modern art sculptures and the beautiful surrounding natural landscape, you’ll have plenty to enjoy both on and off the playgrounds.
