Valley of the Temples

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, the Valle dei Templi, or Valley of the Temples, is a must-visit site for all ages. Located in the historic and archaeological wonder of Agrigento, the Sicilian city offers an incredible lineup of Roman ruins. Take the kids on a tour through the ancient structures and enjoy one of the most-visited sites in the region while learning about history and Sicilian culture.

Stromboli

Chances are, your kids are learning all about volcanoes — or are about to — in school. What better way to pique their interest than with a visit to the Sciara del Fuoco, or the black volcanic-sand beaches of Ficongrande. The town boasts a beachy vibe and quaint city streets — a fun juxtaposition from the booming volcanoes in the distance.

Palermo

The capital city of Sicily and a cultural hub, Palermo is a great place to take the kids. Check out the royal tombs and 12^th-century architecture lining the streets and walk along the Cappella Palatine to take some pictures in front of the mosaics. Between the city’s many shopping markets, gelaterias and family fun, there is something to do for all ages — finicky kids included.

Catania

Another port city that boasts family fun and seaside attractions, Catania sits on Sicily’s eastern coast at the base of Mt. Etna. This active volcano is lined with trails leading through its wild surroundings and a fun way to get out and about with the kids. Refuel later back in town with a gelato in the town square, Piazza del Duomo, as the kids play around the iconic “Fontana dell’Elefante” statue. Tour the ornate cathedrals and castles in town, like Castello Ursino, or stop by the famous fish market, La Pescheria, for an authentic Sicilian experience.

Carini

Just outside the bustling city of Palermo, Carini is a quick train ride away and offers a more rural approach to the Sicilian city life. Visit the ruins along the coastline or bring the kids to the Bioparco di Sicilia and visit the resident wildlife. The natural reserve Grotta Carburangeli is another great stop for your nature-focused kids.
