Kids

For the second year, winter in Keystone, Colorado, means family-friendly events, kid-centric fun and a whole week of celebrations of creativity during Keystone Kidtopia Culinary Festival and the Kidtopia Music Experience.

For Foodies

Kidtopia kicks off Feb. 8–15, with all the foodie fun you can handle. Bring your whisks, spatulas and appetites to the event, featuring ways to create, eat and play with food through culinary adventures and events.

Begin with a Quick-Fire Challenge, led by Nicholas Hornbostel from Celebrity Kid Chef. Team up with other kids or stick with your own little chefs and quickly whip together a recipe using only the surprise ingredients. You’ll enjoy the rush of energy while working together to create an impressive (or messy) meal — just like a family out of a Food Network show.

Hosted by Hornbostel, bring the kids over to the Unique Eats event and learn all about different cuisine combinations and unique comfort foods. This experience is a great way to encourage kids to try new foods, textures and flavors, outside their comfort zone, but at their own pace. Let their curiosity and creativity lead them to new culinary experiences.

During this specific festival, playing with your food is not only allowed, it’s encouraged. Participants of the Play with Your Food event can get messy while building winter-themed creatures using only the finger foods available. Other events include the Unicorn Party, filled with unicorn-themed décor, desserts and magical creations; handcrafted snacks; and cooking classes.

For Music Lovers

If your kids are more musically inclined than food-motivated, the Kidtopia Music Experience is a must. Taking place March 1–10, families flock to Keystone for the fourth anniversary. Create your own beat, dance and sing along with pop-up concerts. Take a Music 101 class with the kids, grab a treat at Ripperoo’s Milkshake Social and listen to a lineup of live music.

The bands, activities and attractions are all completely kid-friendly, but also offer enough to keep parents entertained as well. It’s a rare experience to have a music festival all ages can enjoy — not to mention, one that offers handcrafted milkshakes of your own design.

The interactive attractions are a great way to bond with the kids while teaching them a new skill or sparking their interest in music or culinary arts — all while in the heart of ski country. If you have some extra energy, you’re in the right place. The resort boasts a long list of winter sports and active excursions.

If these winter family events don’t quite fit your schedule, Keystone is one of those winter destinations that has something for all ages, all year. Check out family-focused accommodations before booking your stay.
