It’s no secret Iceland has become one of Europe’s hottest destinations in recent years. Families looking for a way to enjoy their visit without getting lost in the shuffle might want to consider an expedition cruise via Iceland ProCruises, which just issued its 2020 itineraries — that’s right, 2020.
That’s because the company, which specializes in Iceland and Greenland, is experiencing such a boom in demand for Iceland it’s already encouraging interested families to look ahead to next year to avoid being shut out.
With that in mind, the line up for 2020 includes two Iceland Circumnavigation cruises, two trips to Greenland and two departures of a combined Northern Lights and Whales itinerary. Best of all, families who book by Dec. 30, 2019, receive an early bird discount of 20 percent.
Can’t decide? One way to experience the best Iceland has to offer to is circumnavigate the country, and this itinerary, one of the company’s most popular, is available on 11 departure dates from mid-May to mid-July and one in early September. The trips, all aboard the Ocean Diamond, are soft expedition cruises accompanied by an Icelandic expedition team, all of whom speak English and German. The nine-night journey begins and ends in Reykjavik and calls on a number of lesser-known ports with exotic-sounding names, like Stykkisholmur, Isafjördur, Siglufjördur, Akureyri, Skjalfandi Bay, Seydisfjördur, Djupivogur and Vestmannaeyjar. The trip is priced from $ 2,320 per person.
A seven-night Iceland Circumnavigation Express, also aboard the Ocean Diamond, sails around the island, visiting Stykkisholmur, Isafjördur, Akureyri, Skjalfandi Bay, Djupivogur and the Westman Islands. Scheduled for Sept. 6–19, the trip costs from $1,890 per person.
Families who want to be way ahead of the curve can opt for one of two trips to Greenland, which sail to and from Kangerlussuaq and Keflavik. The Natural Wonders of the West Coast of Greenland itinerary, for example, is available Aug. 9–20 and features a route that runs from Greenland’s capital Nuuk to the ice fjord of Ilulissat before cruising onward via Uummannaq to the destination port of Kangerlussuaq. A second itinerary travels from Kangerlussuaq to Reykjavik Aug. 20–31; both are priced from $3,195 per person.
Finally, the six-night Northern Lights and Whales combination trip, sailing to and from Reykjavik aboard the Ocean Diamond, calls at Stykkisholmur, Isafjördur and Husavik from Sept. 23–29. Excursions include a bus trip back to Reykjavik to see the sights, as well as whale watching and — if you’re lucky — the possibility of seeing the region’s famous Northern Lights.
The trip is also offered in reverse order beginning Sept. 23, and both trips are priced from $2,260 per person.
