Woodstock Inn & Resort

Travel Tips

The holidays may be over, but the fun continues at Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont’s Green Mountains thanks to four new ski-and-stay packages designed to appeal to everyone in your family — from newbies to hot shots.

Not ready for downhill skiing? The Woodstock Inn & Resort Nordic Center, celebrating its 50th anniversary, offers 45 kilometers of groomed trails surrounding Mt. Peg you can explore on Nordic skis, fat-tire bikes or snowshoes. Or head to Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park for cross-country skiing and snowshoe hikes.

The Woodstock Nordic Ski package includes one night’s accommodations, daily breakfast, day passes to the Nordic Center and the use of country skiing rental equipment. Package rates for two adults start at $379 midweek; $478 on weekends.

Or take the Alpine ski plunge at the resort’s Suicide Six Ski Area, one of Vermont’s leading family ski resorts with 100 acres of skiing and snowboarding on 24 trails suitable for all skill levels.

New this season, Suicide Six opened two terrain parks and a freestyle area: Milky Way offers entry-level terrain, while Lasky’s Lot caters to intermediate skiers and riders. The freestyle trail offers hits and jibs for advanced skiers and riders, with plenty of room to enjoy the trail without hitting the features.

Downhill skiing with the kids for the first time? Try the Family First Run package, which bundles in accommodations for two nights; daily breakfast; daily passes to Suicide Six Ski Area; a family ski or snowboard lesson; and après ski s’mores kit. Package rates for two adults and two children start at $819 midweek, $981 on weekends, not including rental equipment. A minimum two-night stay is required.

Or opt for the Unlimited Snowsports package, including two nights’ accommodations, daily breakfast, unlimited access to Suicide Six Ski Area for two days, or access to the Nordic Center for two days of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat-tire biking. The deal includes equipment rentals, except downhill skis, based on availability. The package rates for two adults start at $475 midweek; $668 on weekends.

If none of these fit your family, try the Create Your Own Lesson package, which combines accommodations for one night, breakfast and a customized one-hour lesson or a two-hour group lesson with the pros at any of the snow sports offered at Suicide Six Ski Area. Package rates for two adults start at $515 midweek; $668 on weekends, excluding rentals.

The specials are available through March 15, based on availability, and include use of the Athletic Club’s fitness equipment, indoor pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub.

As to off-slope fun, try the après ski scene at Perley’s Pourhouse at Suicide Six, which features a selection of Vermont craft beer on tap, a wood-burning fireplace and such hearty fare as Vertical Drop Vegetable Chili. The Inn’s two on-site restaurants, the Red Rooster and Richardson’s Tavern, feature locally sourced menus, while the warm fondue at Richardson’s Tavern made with Billings Farm cheese is a must-try.

Or take the kids to the game room at the Inn, draped in cozy Vermont flannel and fully equipped for game night with a giant Scrabble board, foosball table, vintage pinball machines, board games and more.

Finally, families can wind down their day at the Inn’s lobby fireplace, catch up on the latest bestseller at the library or retreat to the 10,000-square-foot spa facility, complete with a relaxation space, Shaker wood stoves, a hot tub and a Scandinavian sauna.
