There are myriad ways for kids to spend travel downtime. Tablets and iPads, magazines, activity books, movies and more provide kids with everything they need to stay busy.
There are plenty of amazing book series for young readers spanning genres, including fantasy, science fiction, action and everything in between.
Check out these books for your kids to take on your next trip.
Young Kids
The books catering to the youngest kids on this list include The Magic Treehouse. The Treehouse books were first published in 1992 and enjoyed regular releases through 2015. The books follow two young kids who travel through time with the aid of Morgan Le Fay. The kids see historic events and encounter one-of-a-kind situations, learning the entire time. Author Mary Pope Osbourne makes sure kids can take something away from each book, be it about pirates or World War II.
A Little Older …
A series for kids a bit older, Warriors is perfect for those looking for a more excitement. The story follows five clans of feral cats living in the woods as they battle for supremacy. The series was started by Erin Hunter, but a number of other authors eventually took part. In total, there are 60 books in this series.
Another favorite of young readers is Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
These are good for kids in late elementary and early middle school and tell the story of, well, a wimpy kid. This was also turned into a movie, so young kids might already be familiar with the characters and story.
A classic that stands the test of time, Captain Underpants should never be counted out. These books combine novel-level story telling with brief graphic novel-inspired pieces, making them perfect for kids who already love comic books and silly superhero stories. There are 13 of these books, so they will be sure to keep readers busy for a while.
Teens
A personal favorite of mine from middle school, The Kingdom Keepers answers the question of what happens at Disney World after the park closes. The series follows young teenagers as they work to thwart the evil advances of Maleficent and the rest of the villains. The series begins in Magic Kingdom, but, before the end, characters cruise to Disney Land and visit plenty of attractions and parks throughout the Disney ecosystem.
