During this time of shelter-in-place, people around the world are developing new hobbies. Hotel and restaurant industry leaders from all over the globe share their new hobbies and interests developed during quarantine.
Cindy Delhomel, resort manager, Avani+Samui Resort
Delhomel is learning how to hike, as her home is in a remote location ideal for social distancing. She can explore the southern side of Samui Island, with hidden waterfalls and less-traversed trails. She hopes to share these experiences with future resort guests.
Brooke Hall, director of sales and marketing, Capella Ubud, Bali
Hall began Bahasa Indonesian language lessons during quarantine. She is volunteering with the local community by fostering two kittens from a local shelter. She’s also cooking at home using produce from local markets in lieu of large supermarkets.
Jeremie de Fombelle, general manager, LUX* Le Morne Resort
De Fombelle is currently building a treehouse in his garden alongside his two sons.
Branko Domac, internal marketing department, Lošinj Hotels & Villas
An old car aficionado, Domac fixed and restored a 1964 VW Beetle. The car had damage from a self-ignition problem in 2018. He fixed the problem and added new red paint, with help from his two kids.
Anna Francese Gass, author, Heirloom Kitchen
Gass took up a hobby she’s been wanting to try: gardening. She planted a beautiful garden in her yard, complete with produce and herbs she can use for cooking.
Michael Lomonaco, chef and partner, Hudson Yard Grill and Porter House Bar and Grill
Lomonaco is brushing up on his guitar skills. He’s spending time practicing songs he already knows and learning some new ones. He finds music a therapeutic outlet during these difficult times.
