Destinations

While family travels filled with nonstop adventures, activities and tours are a must with any family, mom and dad deserve a trip of their own with an itinerary or tour that interests them. Here are some unique and fun places to celebrate Mother’s and Father’s days this year.

Fleming Villa

Jamaica for James Bond Fans

Retrace the life of Ian Fleming, the man behind the popular action hero. A former British intelligence officer, Fleming bought 15 acres of under-developed land in Jamaica, naming it GoldenEye as an homage to his naval operation that first brought him to the island. Every January and February, for more than 20 years, Fleming lived on this land, writing a new Bond novel each winter.

Now called The Fleming Villa, the five-bedroom villa lies on 52 acres. See Fleming’s writing desk in person and visit the sunken garden where he would entertain icons like Katherine Hepburn and Noël Coward.

The Chatwal

New York City for Theater Buffs

Treat mom and dad to a stay at The Chatwal, situated just steps from famous Broadway theaters, Fifth Avenue and Central Park. The Chatwal welcomes mom and dad with gifts like an elaborate flower arrangement and a box of chocolates for mom and artisanal nuts and beer for dad. The hotel also includes a bottle of Champagne in its welcome gift.

Mom and dad will enjoy a $150 dinner credit toward The Lambs Club, one of Manhattan’s most legendary restaurants, led by chef Michael White. After dinner, the night doesn’t have to end there, with options like a late-night drink at the bar to a show on Broadway awaiting mom and dad. To end the night, luxurious guestrooms with Art Deco accents and min-bars stocked with premium liquor serve as the perfect close to a great day.

Palm Beach for Culture Lovers

With just 13 rooms and 19 suites spread across four stories housed in the former Bradley Park Hotel, White Elephant Palm Beach boasts a museum-worthy collection of 120 original pieces of colorful, modern and pop art. The pieces are personally curated by the owners and architect Elkus Manfredi.

New to the hotel, guests now have the chance to take a complimentary, educational guided tour of the hotel’s private collection. Available every Saturday at 10 a.m. for hotel guests, the 20-minute experience takes guests through the beautiful and unique pieces featured in the hotel.

White Elephant Palm Beach also offers guests its new Soak Up Sun & Culture offer, providing guests access to some of the city’s top cultural institutions, including Flagler Museum, The Norton Museum of Art, the 1916 Palm Beach County Court House and Johnson History Museum.

Mexico for Gardening Enthusiasts

Paradero Hotel in Todos Santos features 100,000 square feet of botanical gardens on its grounds. From red sand verbena to Mojave yucca to Shaw’s agave, the area boasts 80 endemic species, each selected to be on display on the grounds.

The garden features more than 20,000 plants, with more than 30 percent of the flora grown from seed in the on-site greenhouse. The hotel offers guests the “learn to garden” experience, where guests participate in planting, harvesting and solid waste management. The experience also includes teaching guests how to create a homemade organic garden. After the experience, guests enjoy a farm-to-table lunch with the bounty gathered back at the hotel.
