Laredo, Texas, should be on everyone’s summer family travel list. Located in the heart of South Texas along the banks of the Rio Grande River, the town offers a special mix of U.S. and Mexican cultures, blending into one unique place.
Throughout the year, the town offers a couple festivals, traditions of yesteryear and an array of activities for travelers of all ages. One of the major festivals is Laredo International Sister Cities Festival, July 15–17. This event highlights the two cultures and features more than 190 artisans, entertainment, cuisine and more from all over Mexico, Central and South America.
This one-of-a-kind event is an awesome way to experience the city’s unique, bi-national charm and Mex-Tex authenticity. For three days, Sames Auto Arena transforms into a beautiful indoor mercado, where the artisans showcase and sell goods from their native city and pay homage to the rich blend of cultures. Vendors sell items like leather goods, home décor, handcrafted jewelry, clothing and more.
Guests can also enjoy authentic Mexican dishes and an array of cultural exhibits, performing arts and more. The event is free to the public. While visiting, make sure to stroll the streets of Laredo to get a better understanding of the charm and cultural significance this Texas border town has to offer.
