Vacasa recently revealed its 2022 Holiday and Winter Travel Trends report. The vacation rental and management company conducted the survey with Allison + Partners Research during October, concerning winter and holiday travel among U.S. travelers.
Of those surveyed, 53 percent plan to travel during the winter season (December through February). Of those, 75 percent plan to stay within the United States and Canada, with 71 percent of them having already booked their travel. Forty percent will travel specifically during the holidays. Twenty percent of respondents are still unsure of their winter travel plans. Sixty-seven percent of travelers will take two weekend trips, while 71 percent will enjoy a vacation of a week or longer.
Thirty-nine percent of travelers will visit a warm-weather destination and 32 percent are leaning toward a snowy destination, while 29 percent plan a mix of both on separate trips. The most-searched destinations areWhistler, British Columbia, Canada; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Atlantic Beach, North Carolina; Ludlow, Vermont; and Mammoth Lakes, California. Fifty-seven percent will drive to their destination while 55 percent plan to fly.
Ninety-one percent of travelers said rising travel costs impacted their vacation planning in some way, with 33 percent booking in advance to save money and 27 percent adjusting travel dates to find the lowest price.
Forty percent of those surveyed anticipate traveling more in 2023 than they did in 2022.
