Destinations / Europe

Many powerful and exceptional women have left a mark on the history of Slovenia, from Barbara of Celje, one of the most influential women of the 14th century, and Alma Karlim, an adventurous pioneer of her time who traveled the world with a typewriter, to Ita Rina, a celebrated actress from the 1920s and 30s. What better destination to celebrate International Women’s Month than a destination with a lot of her-story? Slovenia invites female travelers to explore its unique gastronomy experiences with friends.

Irena Fonda is an extraordinary biologist who created two memorable experiences that connect the sea, the art of cooking fish and the story of the best farm-raised fish in the world. The Become an Expert in Fish Cooking and Seafood experience takes place in the town of Portorož, where Irena Fonda teaches a four-hour workshop on how to clean a fish and cook exquisite seafood dishes. Don’t miss the opportunity to become a master in cooking fish soup, carpaccio, sashimi and raw fish tartare.

Travelers can also cruise on a vessel or kayak for a guided visit to Fonda Fish Garden. Guides teach guests how fish are specially fed and treated carefully.
