Budget

Not every budget vacation has to include accommodations in a tent or low-cost motel. Sometimes it just means getting a great deal on a high-end property that might otherwise be out of reach. Enter Velas Resorts’ family-friendly properties in Los Cabos, Riviera Maya, Riviera Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, all offering complimentary stays for kids, discounted rates for teens, dedicated kids’ and teen clubs, Summer Camp, baby concierge and more this summer.

At Grand Velas resorts in Riviera Nayarit, Los Cabos and Riviera Maya, for example, up to two children aged 4 to 12 stay free in the same suite as the adults through Oct. 31.

Families traveling with older kids, aged 13 to 15, to Grand Velas in Los Cabos and Riviera Nayarit are eligible for a 50 percent discount off teen rates, and Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta features discounts on kid and teen rates.

As to activities, fun things to do at Grand Velas and Velas Vallarta include sand castle building, Spanish lessons, animal shows, piñata making and kickball tournaments. You can also participate in cooking and baking classes, drive-in movies and eco-cycling tours, just to name a few.

There are even more kid-friendly activities during peak season Summer Camp weeks at the resorts, this year held July 15–Aug.12.

Camp fun includes zip lines, climbing walls, astronomy nights and even hands-on mandala workshops.

If your timing doesn’t coincide with summer camp, though, the resorts feature dedicated kids and teens clubs all year, along with family-friendly entertainment and even a baby concierge to cater to the needs of the tiniest guests.

A big part of a successful family vacation is nabbing the right accommodations and, with this in mind, the resorts offer two-bedroom family suites with more than 2,000 square feet. They include a king bed suite and an interconnecting suite with two queen beds, as well as a private terrace overlooking the ocean, or, in the case of the Grand Velas Riviera Maya, jungle views.

Additional amenities for families consist of a stuffed animal of the resort’s mascot, bathrobes and slippers in special mini sizes, a family photo session and credit for the purchase of photos, kids’ welcome beach kit, kid-friendly evening turndown and more.

Rates start at $169 at Velas Vallarta; $381 at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit; $434 at Grand Velas Riviera Maya; and $582 at Grand Velas Los Cabos, per adult, per night, double occupancy.

Teen rates are $95 and $100 at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit and Grand Velas Los Cabos — after the 50 percent discount; and $200 per night at Grand Velas Riviera Maya.

At Grand Velas Riviera Maya in the ocean-view Ambassador ambiance, kids are $120 per night, while at Velas Vallarta, the rates for kids and teens are $36 and $48, respectively, per night. Two-bedroom family suites rates start at $920 at Velas Vallarta; $1,356 at Grand Velas Riviera Maya; $1,984 at Grand Velas Los Cabos; and $2,015 at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit for two adults and two kids.

The Summer Promotion is available through Oct. 31, and rates include accommodations, a la carte gourmet meals at a variety of specialty restaurants, premium branded beverages, 24-hour in-suite service, taxes, gratuity and more.
