Age Specific / Adult Children

As a little girl, my family lived in Southern California. During a summer road trip, we were en route to Yosemite National Park when my parents “surprised” us with a side trip to Napa Valley. Considering my sister and I were in the second and fifth grades, respectively, we were not too excited at the prospect of hanging about while my parents sipped some of the best wines in the world. And while wineries have become a lot more family-friendly since those days a few decades ago, it really is a lot of fun when the entire family can sip together. As an adult, I’m all in for a redo of that family road trip from childhood. What do you say, Mom and Dad?

Here, we take a look at some spots to go wine tasting with your adult children.

Castello di Amorosa, Napa Valley

Imagine tasting the area’s finest wines in an authentically styled, 13th-century Tuscan castle. Well, you can do just that when you visit Castello di Amorosa in Napa Valley. When you choose the 2.5-hour Royal Food & Wine Pairing Tour, you will enjoy pairings of hand-crafted, Italian-inspired wines and dishes in the Royal Apartment — perfect for a lunch or early dinner family outing.

Long Meadow Ranch, Napa Valley

Start the day with downward dogs and sun salutations at Long Meadow Ranch in Napa before setting out on wine tastings that will likely fill your day. Offered on Tuesday and Friday mornings, the one-hour yoga class will leave you feeling balanced and focused. Afterwards, enjoy a cup of Stumptown coffee or tea and a yogurt parfait with house-made granola and LMR jam at the on-site café. Afterwards, let the family wine tastings begin!

Paradise Ridge Winery, Santa Rosa

Wine and art blend naturally at Paradise Ridge Winery in Santa Rosa. Before settling in for a tasting, wander through Marijke’s Grove, an outdoor sculpture garden on the grounds of the winery. “Galleries” are connected by foot paths, and sculptures are found on mossy rocks and grassy meadows. Guests are invited to spend as much time as they like. Afterwards, enjoy the works of art the Back family creates with the wines.

Uncorked Wine Tours, France

If your family is heading to France for some serious wine tasting, consider hooking up with Uncorked Wine Tours. Operating in Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne, these wine experts will have you sipping the finest reds and bubbly, without having to worry about the details.
