Aurora Expeditions, the Australian adventure travel company, announces its new expedition ship Sylvia Earle. The purpose-built ship makes its debut on the Subantarctic Safari itinerary, Nov. 4–20. Prior to its maiden voyage, the ship’s namesake, Dr. Sylvia Earle, renowned biologist, explorer and oceanographer, will christen it.
“We are thrilled to confirm the inaugural season of the Sylvia Earle, and to be debuting her on such a magnificent voyage whose destinations are so representative of Aurora’s spirit of exploration, discovery and education,” said Hayley Peacock-Gower, CMO, Aurora Expeditions.

The 17-day maiden voyage begins in Santiago, Chile, and ends in Ushuaia, Argentina. Guests experience up-close wildlife encounters and learn about the history of the region. The ship accommodates 130–140 guests per voyage. Each cabin boasts an ocean view and most have balconies. Other amenities on Sylvia Earleinclude a two-level glass atrium lounge, multiple observation areas, two restaurants, a gym and pool.
Dr. Earle will join the ship on its Antarctic Climate Expedition in February 2023. The special itinerary hosts other leaders in the fields of conservation, art, education, economics and science, addressing these topics during discussions and experiences.
“Travelling with Aurora Expeditions on the Sylvia Earle will be an incredible opportunity for people to learn about the planet’s extraordinary marine habitats and the importance of protecting them,” said Dr. Earle.
