Cruising

Carnival announced new itineraries to beautiful and exotic ports in the Southern Caribbean, opening up new opportunities for exploring and experiencing the region’s beautiful islands and local cultures.

Currently Carnival cruises to the Caribbean sail from ports in Florida, Alabama, Texas and Louisiana and take passengers mostly to Western and Eastern Caribbean islands like the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Grand Cayman and Jamaica. Carnival Fascination also takes passengers on a week-long excursion into the Southern Caribbean, sailing from Barbados; however, starting in 2021, three all-new cruises will depart San Juan, Puerto Rico, and sail to island ports previously inaccessible to Carnival passengers.

Some of the new destinations will include beautiful islands like Grenada, Antigua, Tortola and Dominica. These destinations are jewels of the Caribbean and passengers will love the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, the white sandy beaches, the lush island greenery and the friendly locals at these amazing new cruise stops.

Each stop along the way offers plenty of great shore excursions Carnival passengers have come to know and love, including a parasailing adventure in St. Thomas or catamaran sailing and snorkeling experience in St. Kitts. Guests can also enjoy horseback riding on the beach in Antigua or visit Grenada’s Grand Etang Lake for a cocoa and rum tasting experience.

Southern Caribbean cruises offer seven-day itineraries leaving from San Juan, Puerto Rico with stops at five separate islands along the way. One new itinerary, for example, includes stops in St. Thomas, Antigua, Dominica, Grenada and Barbados before returning to port in San Juan. Another itinerary follows a similar route with a stop in Tortola, instead of Grenada, before returning to Puerto Rico to end the trip.

All Southern Caribbean cruises will sail on Fascination, which recently underwent a major overhaul in 2017 in preparation for its week-long Caribbean itineraries. The ship is now well-prepared to meet the expectations of guests and keep them busy all week with on-board amenities and entertainment. The ship offers mini-golf, a day spa complete with treatments for men, women and couples, and a waterslide park.

The entire family can have fun with on-board games like the Clue Murder Mystery Game, Lip Sync Battle and the Hasbro Game Show, which provide fun, interactive experiences for passengers.

As with all Carnival cruise ships, Fascination comes equipped with more great dining options than you will know what to do with. Make sure you don’t fill up on the ship’s breakfast buffet on your days in port and be sure to leave room for sampling local Southern Caribbean dishes like Oil Down, the national dish of Grenada, made from breadfruit, salted meat, coconut milk and spices, or fungie, the national dish of Antigua similar to an Italian polenta. In addition to these unique dishes, guests will find delicious seafood in abundance and delicious fresh fruits.

The food, the beautiful weather and incredible scenery of the islands will make it quickly apparent why Carnival added these great itineraries to the agenda.
