As September arrives so, sadly, does the end of summer. In Los Angeles, however, summertime seems to live on. This year-round destination makes the most of its amazing climate by keeping the summertime fun alive with these great activities that make the most of the weather.
Check Out Some Local Fare at a Food Festival
Smorgasburg LA, a five-acre, open-air food festival located in Downtown Los Angeles, is a great way to get to know the flavors of the city. Open every Sunday from 10 a.m.–4 p.m., L.A.’s cutting-edge food scene is on display with more than 50 local food vendors to choose from. There are plenty of yummy and unique treats to tempt your whole family’s taste buds. If Italian food is your thing, then check out Porchetta Republic with its delicious sandwiches filled with flavorful meats. If you’re a cheese lover, Cheezus is a must-stop for the ooiest-gooiest grilled cheese you can imagine. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, all the tantalizing choices will drive you crazy! Donut Friend serves up stuffed donuts while Churro Boss is serving up its soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside treats topped with an assortment of goodies, like ice cream and crunchy cereal bits.
Catch a Rooftop Movie
Hollywood is the entertainment capital of the world and the Rooftop Cinema Club keeps the movie magic alive. While the movies are not first-run (recent showings include Point Break, Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing), the experience is unforgettable. Moviegoers relax in comfortable lawn chairs on the roof of the former CBS studios building and enjoy a full-length movie projected on the side. The warm Los Angeles evenings and historic movie-land setting create the perfect ambience for an outdoor movie experience.
Catch a Wave with Fido
Head to the beach Sept. 29 for the annual Surf City Surf Dog Competition in the city of Huntington Beach. This free, annual event proves Angelenos — and their dogs — love the beach. Events kick off Sept. 28 with a doggie fashion show with the talented pooches catching waves and hanging 10 all day on Saturday at the city’s Imperial Beach. The goal of the event is to have fun, encourage community interaction and raise funds for charities like Barks of Love and several dog rescue networks.
