Luxury

Luxury and family travel don’t always go hand in hand, but at the new Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski, set to open in October 2019 in Dominica, even the youngest guests will be treated like royalty.

The destination’s first beachfront, 5-star resort, the 152-room property will offer an appealing alternative for families who want a break from the same-old Caribbean experience, while at the same time offering plenty of fun in the sun.

For one thing, the resort is located in a prime spot, in Douglas Bay on the northwest side of the island and surrounded by Dominica’s Cabrits National Park, known for its pristine, unspoiled beauty. For another, it offers a welcome dose of authenticity for travelers in a region that often smacks of canned excursions and tourist traps. For those unfamiliar with the island, Dominica is located in the West Indies, near Martinique and Guadeloupe, and features an astonishing 365 rivers, scenic waterfalls, hot springs and mountainous rainforests.

That said, we’re not talking about roughing it. The design of the Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski is deliberately unobtrusive so it doesn’t compete with the natural beauty of its surroundings. But it’s also opulent in the way travelers familiar with the Kempinski brand would expect. The whole idea is to blend luxury with nature — especially the enduring charms of sand and sea — while offering a contemporary experience for its guests.

The creation of the resort is also intended to preserve the land and surrounding eco-systems from further development, said Michael Schoonewagen, general manager, Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski Dominica. “We’re especially proud of this property because it will give travelers the chance to experience Dominica like never before, bringing together Kempinski’s timeless opulence with the destination’s pristine, preserved landscape to create a transcendent experience where luxury meets nature.”

What is there for kids to do? Choices include a children’s club, three swimming pools, a private lake with motorized and non-motorized watersports and two tennis courts. Children old enough to enjoy hiking can explore the hiking trails in Cabrits National Park or just relax with downtime at the beach club.

Meanwhile, Mom and Dad can luxuriate at the full-service spa, work out at the fitness center or tuck into fine dining at three international restaurants.

The Cabrits Resort & Spa will begin accepting reservations in spring 2019. Kempinski Hotels, Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group, manages a portfolio of 75 5-star hotels and residences in 33 countries and is a founding member of the Global Hotel Alliance, the world’s largest alliance of independent hotel brands.

Why Families Shouldn’t Skip Cusco on a Machu Picchu Trip

More than just a stopping place and staging point for the train trip to Machu Picchu, Cusco is an ancient Inca capital and major city in Colonial Peru. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, Cusco is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Americas, and it’s well worth spending a few days here to appreciate the layers of culture from two empires.
