If you get the feeling you’ve been to Chateau Marmont
before, it’s probably because you have — in countless movies that showcase this 5-star hotel’s secretive charm and elegance. Like a castle peeping out of the Hollywood Hills, this 5-star getaway is a favorite among Hollywood’s elite thanks to its combination of old-world glam and seclusion. Known for a history of wild parties and debauchery (this is, after all, the infamous site where comedian John Belushi died), the Chateau is also known as a place where one can escape from the drama and hustle of the city and relax in the hotel’s indulgence and pampering.
The grounds are lushly landscaped creating a virtual hideaway. The main building is reminiscent of a castle with its central turret and Gothic archways. Inside the warm, rich colors are welcoming and add to the air of mystery that lingers throughout the property. Guests can choose from a variety of rooms, each offering the Chateau’s unique brand of indulgence and secrecy. In addition to the rooms of the main building, the property offers a number of private garden cottages and hillside bungalows. They offer privacy and seclusion with access to the hotel’s heated outdoor pool and some accommodations, such as the hillside bungalows, come equipped with their own private street entrances and car ports.
For the ultimate in luxury the Chateau also offers two styles of penthouse suites. The one-bedroom comes with a formal dining room, two terraces and 1,200 square feet of living space along with a $2,500 per night price tag while the two-bedroom penthouse has 3,800 square feet of decadent decor, incredible views of Hollywood and a $5,000 per night price tag.
When it comes to food the Chateau’s options live up to the highest of expectations. The indoor restaurant provides classic American cuisine for a secluded dinner experience while the outdoor garden terrace is ideal for a light and refreshing breakfast or lunch. Chateau Hanare, located away from the main building near the hotel’s bungalows, offers delicious Japanese fare. As with all “exclusive” locations, this is an ideal place to “be seen” brunching on the weekends. The menus are expertly crafted from local, seasonal foods by chef Rhoda Magbitang.
While the hotel offers all the bells and whistles of a 5-star hotel when it comes to amenities, what sets it apart from all the rest is the old Hollywood vibe that permeates every second of your stay. One night at the Chateau and it is easy to see why celebrities have made it their home away from home for decades.
