If your family travel happens to take you to Schwangau, Germany, to tour Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, you might want to also visit Museum of Bavarian Kings before to learn a little more about the Bavarian kings who once lived there.
Opened in 2011 across from Hohenschwangau Castle, Museum of Bavarian Kings provides insight into the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty from the beginning to present. Although the museum provides information on the whole dynasty, exhibitions focus on King Maximilian II, who turned Hohenschwangau Castle into a summer residence for the family and his son, King Ludwig II, the creator of Neuschwanstein Castle.
While learning the history of the dynasty, castles and area, visitors also have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of authentic artifacts gifted to and owned by the royal family. Tourists can even see the original cloak King Ludwig II wore in his prime.
Start in the Hall of Kings to learn more about each individual king and then take a walk down the family tree to meet the people, from family members to important representatives, who helped influence and guide the kings.
Travelers can either wander around the museum at their leisure or take part in a public or private tour. Visit the website for more information on each option and to find the one that works best for you.
